Mutation in Breast Cancer Gene May be the Cause Behind ...

Breast-CancerA new proposal will help in curing those who fall victim to breast cancer as a result of inclination. The discovery made by the scientists in this study will help cure tens of thousands of Australian women.

As, per now scientists and doctors were unable to determine the genetic link between the cancer cases that were reported form the same family. They explained it to be some kind of inheritance but were unable to detail their analysis till now. However, their new research regarding the disease led them to the discovery of a new gene mutation, which is expected to further, help diagnose people who are at risk of breast cancer and even other types.

The study that was carried out for almost past 20 years, collected useful data from around thousands of families in Australia. The study was accomplished to determine the tendency of breast cancer in the families, to acknowledge the causes of the disease in the family.

After analyzing the information via sequencing techniques, it was found that the breast cancer risk gene XRCC2 was infected by a new mutation. Due to this mutation, the women are more susceptible to be affected by breast cancer.

It has been unveiled that these findings will surely help in the treatment of those women, who have been affected adversely by cancer and no cause was known, including inheritance.

A Melbourne University Professor, Melissa Southey, said ?It is particularly frustrating for families that are relying on their family history alone to be able to advise them about what best strategies are for them in terms of cancer management?.

Moreover, she affirmed that the findings will help reduce as well as mange the risk of breast cancer on the basis of her genetic makeup and certain other factors. However, it will surely take some time to implement these techniques.

Analysis: HMO investors breathe easier about health law ruling

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Now that the Supreme Court has given a glimpse of how it will consider the healthcare overhaul, more investors in health insurance stocks are breathing easier about the eventual ruling.

Wall Street is less worried about the worst-case scenario for insurers: that the court strikes down the individual mandate requiring people buy insurance, but keeps in place provisions that could force insurers to cover more sick, high-cost Americans.

Investors also increasingly believe the whole law may be tossed out, analysts said, which could boost health insurer stocks in the near term. Several analysts pointed to UnitedHealth Group as a stock that should do well regardless of the ruling, while Aetna Inc has been a strong performer this week.

The high court heard three days of arguments over the law championed by President Barack Obama this week, with close scrutiny paid to every question posed by its justices.

Legal and political commentators saw shared support for the law among the court's four liberal appointees, but question whether Obama's administration will win over one of five conservative justices needed to keep the law intact.

As the nation waits for a ruling in late June, the thesis for healthcare investors has changed slightly, analysts and fund managers say.

In the worst-case scenario, the court strikes down the individual mandate, which requires people buy insurance or face a penalty, while maintaining provisions that force insurers to offer coverage regardless of health status.

Insurers have said that the mandate is necessary to ensure that healthy people are in the insurance pool, because without it they would only see an influx of sick, high-cost consumers.

But given the court's debate, analysts said, investors are discounting chances of such a partial decision.

"Investors gained comfort with the operating environment that (health insurers) are going to have," Jefferies & Co analyst David Windley said. "The worst case is now unlikely."

Analysts cautioned that health insurer stocks could tumble 5 percent or perhaps much more if the individual mandate alone is struck down.

"People at this point have pretty much dismissed the potential for an adverse outcome here, which would be the individual mandate gets tossed and everything else remains the same," Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Chris Rigg said.

Shares of large health insurers outperformed the market this week, and posted significant gains on Thursday.

Aetna jumped 6.5 percent on Thursday, while Coventry Health Care rose 5.9 percent and UnitedHealth and Cigna Corp both climbed more than 4 percent.

For the week, the Morgan Stanley Healthcare Payor index of insurers rose about 6 percent through Thursday against roughly flat performance for the broader S&P 500 index.

THESIS CHANGING

Going into the start of the debate on Monday, the consensus among investors was that the law will be upheld -- a decision viewed as modestly positive for insurer stocks because it would create more certainty about their business in the coming years.

But the high court's debate created the impression among many on Wall Street that there is a greater chance the mandate is at risk, and possibly the entire law.

For example, former Aetna Chief Executive Ron Williams told CNBC television on Thursday he now believed that the individual mandate, had a "high probability" of being overturned.

"Going into the debate on the mandate, there was almost a sense of complacency out there that the mandate would stand, as would the law," CRT Capital analyst Sheryl Skolnick said. "Investors were thrown a curve ball."

However, should the mandate be struck down, the most likely scenario is that the court will also strike down provisions that require insurers enroll all individuals regardless of health status, according to Sanford Bernstein analyst Ana Gupte.

This scenario is positive for insurers because it eliminates risks from enrolling potentially unprofitable members through the new insurance exchanges to be created by the law, but would still allow the companies to increase their membership through the expansion of the Medicaid health program for low-income Americans.

Gupte called the court's developments this week "thesis-changing" for investors given that the diminished chance of the worst-case decision and the improved odds for the more positive scenario.

Thursday's rise for insurer stocks indicated that investors also may have been pricing in the court overturning the entire law, according to analysts at Goldman Sachs.

Such a ruling would also create uncertainty for the insurers, but could help their stocks in the near term by eliminating new regulations viewed as onerous to the industry.

OVERTURN NEGATIVE FOR HOSPITALS, MEDICAID COS

Wall Street generally agrees that an overturn would hurt hospital companies. The law stands to increase the potential pool of paying patients by providing coverage for more than 30 million uninsured, many of whom otherwise might seek care but leave hospitals with unpaid bills.

Hospitals shares have traded lower during the week. Through Thursday, HCA Holdings fell 4.6 percent, Tenet Healthcare declined 1.7 percent and Community Health Systems slipped 0.9 percent.

"They could experience some additional weakness," CRT's Skolnick said. "I can't see where first-quarter earnings are going to generate a rally. I think they're going to be range-bound."

At the same time, Skolnick said, "Should reform pass this test completely, you wouldn't want to be short the hospitals."

Shares of insurers that specialize in Medicaid also may come under pressure ahead of the decision. The law is set to significantly expand Medicaid, providing a new growth opportunity for these smaller insurers.

Although the consensus seemed to be that the court would uphold the specific portion dealing with the Medicaid expansion, an overturn of the entire law could negate the expansion.

For now, investors do not seem overly concerned about this possibility: Shares of Medicaid specialists Amerigroup and Molina Healthcare both rose 1.7 percent for the week through Thursday, while Centene climbed 5.7 percent.

Oppenheimer & Co analyst Michael Wiederhorn said to expect some volatility among such companies until June, but said he'd "use weakness in the Medicaid names as a buying opportunity."

"When you look at the big picture of the Medicaid names, states are still struggling," Wiederhorn said. "States will continue to outsource this business."

Even as investors placed bets, some analysts maintained that nothing definite emerged from the three-day proceedings.

"It's a fool's game to try to figure out a 5-4 vote one way or another," Wiederhorn said.

Hulu Plus comes to seven Android tabs with shiny new UI

First, lets get the short list out of the way. If you're not the proud owner of a Transformer Prime, Transformer, Xoom, XYBoard 10.1, Thrive, Iconia or G-Slate then chances are Hulu Plus coming to Honeycomb and ICS slates doesn't do you much good. (Hopefully Hulu will get the app ready for Samsung's bottomless well of tablets soon.) Then again, maybe this is one more reason to consider picking up the Google-powered devices. The newly tablet-friendly app comes with an appropriate redesign, including large tiles and show pages packed with info and options. Content is organized into individually scrollable horizontal "trays" that make navigating clips and shows simple, without a lot of jumping back and forth between separate menus and pages. There's even long press shortcuts -- simply tap and hold on a show's icon and the next episode will automatically play. To see it in action check out the quick video after the break, then head over to the Google Play store to download it yourself.

Stanton Peele: The Constitution and Health Insurance

Are there ways in which the Constitution isn't the inerrant guidelight we were taught to think of it as in secondary school? That is, what about airplane security?

But I am thinking specifically about health care. As Glenn Beck so notably argued, "The Constitution doesn't guarantee health care as a fundamental right."

Right. But it has become awfully important to us as Americans and as human beings. And, damn it, they get it as a basic right in other countries! Are they better off than we are because they don't have a Constitution?

Having introduced that question, I'll now leave it for Constitutional scholars to ponder.

But what I'm really thinking about is how we argue the entire heath care debate in terms of personal choices (which may be violated by a mandate to purchase insurance), the rights of businesses and free enterprise (as in, let insurance companies compete to make us the best offers from which to choose our health plans), and a kind of you're-on-your-own, personal freedom philosophy that our founding fathers thought in terms of, but which now seems largely to benefit some very rich and powerful people who control much of all of our lives.

Which leaves us -- where? As a nation, wanting more secure access to our wonderful doctors for ourselves and our children, anxious about how we can afford insurance (or, as seniors, which I am, about how much Medicare covers). Quite understandably, we want more coverage, and to pay no more (please God, maybe even less?) for it.

But personal health care costs continue to rise sharply for everyone, more so than they do in those countries without Constitutions.

As one example of an alternative universe, consider New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman's recent description of health care in Australia and New Zealand: "Conservatives in Australia and New Zealand have also long accepted single-payer national health care systems." Friedman explains:

There are many reasons for the narrowness of the political spectrum here, Johansson added. Neither New Zealand nor Australia are strong churchgoing countries, so social issues don't resonate as much. Both being isolated, sparsely populated, pioneering communities -- New Zealand has only 4.5 million people -- they have strong egalitarian traditions and believe the state has a role to play in making sure everyone gets a fair shake.

"We also have compulsory voting," said Turnbull [Malcolm Turnbull, former leader of Australia's main conservative party]. You get fined if you don't vote. "In a voluntary voting system like yours, there is always the temptation to run hard on hot-button issues that will fire up the base and get them out to vote. In a compulsory voting system, your base has to vote -- as does everyone else -- and so the goal is to target the middle ground."

Wait a second -- doesn't that last bit violate the Constitution?

We're in a sad situation, our American lot, many of us a bad illness or an accident or a denial by an insurance company away from losing our precarious balance in life.

And is this all written in the Constitution?

Business Ethics: Why Greg Smith Left Goldman Sachs (Upper ...

Business Ethics ESL Lesson Plan: Warm-up (Pair Work)

1) What?s the best way to invest for your future?
2) What companies do you feel overcharge or abuse their customers?
3) What is the purpose of a corporation or financial institution?
4) Have you ever quit a job for ethical reasons?
5) What are the values of the company you work for?

Reading: Why Greg Smith Left Goldman Sachs (March, 2012)

Greg Smith has created a significant buzz on Wall Street. When he resigned on March 14th as an executive director at Goldman Sachs, one of the world?s largest investment banks, he decided to publish his resignation letter in the New York Times. Needless to say, he has definitely burned his bridges with his former employer.

?

After 12 years at Goldman Sachs, Smith leaves an environment that he describes as ?toxic? and ?destructive?. He writes:

?

?To put the problem in the simplest terms, the interests of the client continue to be sidelined in the way the firm operates and thinks about making money. Goldman Sachs is one of the world?s largest and most important investment banks and it is too integral to global finance to continue to act this way. The firm has veered so far from the place I joined right out of college that I can no longer in good conscience say that I identify with what it stands for.?

?

According to Smith, the company?s mission today is to get clients to trade whatever brings the biggest profit to Goldman. Smith writes that he was astounded by ?how little senior management gets a basic truth: If clients don?t trust you they will eventually stop doing business with you. It doesn?t matter how smart you are.? His letter goes on to describe a culture of greed in which colleagues bragged about ripping off clients, whom directors refer to as ?muppets.?

?

Smith calls for a change in the company?s business culture. He hopes his letter ?can be a wake-up call to the board of directors. Make the client the focal point of your business again. Without clients you will not make money. In fact, you will not exist.? [287 words]

MasterCard probes possible cardholder breach

NEW YORK (AP) ? MasterCard says it is investigating a potential security breach of its cardholders' account information.

The credit card company said Friday it has notified law enforcement agencies and issuers of the MasterCard accounts that are potentially at risk. The credit card company only processes transactions ? the credit cards are issued to cardholders by banks such as Citibank and also a number of retailers.

MasterCard wouldn't say how many cardholders, banks or issuing companies are affected.

The company advises cardholders who have concerns that they should contact the financial institution that issued their cards.

MasterCard says its own systems have not been compromised.

Hashimotos: The Iodine-Iodide Issue - Health And Fitness Tips

Hashimotos is called an autoimmune issue and that is accompanied by thyroid inflammation. What most people you should not know is usually that thyroid irritation happened long prior to their improvement of Hashimotos. This actuality differs from the regular viewpoint which believes that a person?s thyroid antibodies are the reason behind thyroid irritation.

Therefore if we could step back again and realize the origin of thyroid inflammation we then have a much far better concept about how to reverse Hasimotos.

The Role of Iodine and Iodide

From my clinical encounter iodide and iodine participate in a position in the trigger or etiology of thyroid inflammation and the perpetuation of Hashimotos.

To be aware of this I would like to briefly evaluate a very little thyroid physiology.

There are 2 primary thyroid hormones. Just one is Thyroxine or T4 and the other is Tri-iodothyronine or T3. The 4 and the 3 make reference to the quantity of iodine atoms connected to each hormone.

But iodine does not enter thyroid cells. It can be iodide which is absorbed and enter thyroid cells via what exactly are known as ?Iodine Traps.? I?ve no idea why they have been granted this phrase whenever they basically take in iodide.

But iodide is absorbed, waiting around to be converted into iodine and that is then used to make thyroid hormones. And when the time arrives to those hormones thyroid cells make hydrogen peroxide to tug off just one atom from the iodide to make iodine.

When thyroid cells are stimulated to make their hormones, their manufacturing of hydrogen peroxide boosts, converting iodide into iodine, and the assembly line of making thyroid hormones advancements.

What stimulates thyroid cells to make hydrogen peroxide is the hormone TSH or Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. This reality is extremely significant as a result of its connection with thyroid inflammation.

TSH and Thyroid Irritation

When amounts of thyroid hormones drop in the blood the gland which creates TSH boosts its creation in an attempt to encourage thyroid cells to make a lot more hormones. So when thyroid hormones drop, TSH goes up.

Then what will come about when a human being has a deficiency of iodide?

When you will find a insufficient iodide there will be a insufficient iodine within thyroid cells, so thyroid hormone production goes down. And when thyroid hormone production goes down, TSH goes up.

This TSH stimulates thyroid cells to produce extra and much more hydrogen peroxide, and if amounts of hydrogen peroxide continue to be substantial, which they?re going to if thyroid hormone amounts continue being low, hydrogen peroxide will sooner or later bring on irritation and inevitably inflammation.

Lab Testing

Both TSH and the thyroid hormones T4 can be checked by lab screening. As in our prior instance of an iodide deficiency, when TSH is superior and T4 is below the lab?s reference range then the person is identified with Hypothyroidism.

If the TSH is large and T4 is very low but nonetheless in the lab?s reference assortment then the individual will very likely be diagnosed with Subclinical Hypothyroidism. Groundwork has shown that about 50 percent the people today with Subclinical Hypothyroidism will eventually develop Hashimotos. Why is this?

Elevated TSH causes enhanced hydrogen manufacturing inside thyroid cells bringing about irritation. Inflammation quickens the metabolic process of cells resulting in their aging prematurely. Therefore inflamed thyroid cells have a shortened life expectancy and whenever they die they release their contents including Thyroperoxidase and Thyroglobulin. This enzyme and protein set off an immune reaction with the advancement of antibodies.

As a result an iodide deficiency will cause thyroid irritation. The signifies of supporting thyroid inflammation is through the utilization of iodide. It will improve thyroid hormone creation which can decrease TSH.

But is that this very same tactic real for Hashimotos?

Iodide for Hashimotos?

Here?s the double edge of the iodide sword.

As far as the body?s intelligence is anxious iodide and iodine are definitely necessary for health and are thought to be treasured commodities. And more than hundreds, possibly thousands, of generations we created an capacity to retailer these trace things in scenario of a shortage, similar to how our livers retail store vitamin B12 for several years.

Whenever we ingest iodide and iodine these are easily absorbed into people similar Iodine Traps which exist in the thyroid as well as other tissues throughout the overall body. These traps may also be generally known as Sodium Iodine Symports. Storage in these symports enables us to use iodine and iodine down the road as wanted.

These symports really don?t have the intelligence to immediately know when iodine and iodide can be found. They need to be stimulated by the exact hormone that stimulates those people traps in thyroid cells, TSH.

So when iodine and iodide are ingested this triggers a rise in the production of TSH. This TSH will promote the symports in the thyroid and throughout the overall body to soak up iodide and iodine respectively. Yet remember, with Hashimotos we do not want elevated TSH because it also stimulates thyroid cells to make hydrogen peroxide.

The Danger of Iodine & Iodine

Here?s a story from just before I knew superior than to utilize substantial doses of iodine and iodide. A 53 year old woman had symptoms of Hypothyroidism. She had a TSH of 3.65 (slightly significant) and a T4 thyroid hormone level of 6.5 (extremely a lot on the very low side of the lab?s standard reference variety). So I set her on a substantial dose of iodine and iodide, about 12 mg of each. We repeated her labs after six months to find a TSH of 107. I was shocked to say the least.

For this explanation, and mainly because it truly is vital to acquire TSH underneath 1.0 for people with Hashimotos, I avoid using iodine and iodide completely in the first phase of treatment method and that is to lower thyroid inflammation.

As you?ll be able to see, a deficiency of iodide is the main reason for thyroid irritation. Nonetheless as soon as this irritation has progressed, causing thyroid mobile destruction, the launch of Thyroglobulin and Thyroperoxidase and the activation of antibodies, iodide and iodine ought to be avoided.

Steps to Reducing Thyroid Irritation

Here are the steps in the first phase of reducing thyroid irritation.

Avoid nutritional supplements with iodine and iodide.

Reduce TSH by providing thyroid hormones. This really is done primarily via a thyroid prescription. There is no other means of increasing thyroid hormone ranges in order to reduce TSH to at least 1.0.

Provide selenium in the methionine form that has established to reduce thyroid irritation.

Strengthen glutathione levels to also quench inflammation. Selenium helps to boost glutathione levels. Glutathione can also be applied topically through the thyroid using pharmaceutical grade DMSO.

Enhance the ecology of the gut. Any gut inflammation for some reason parallels thyroid irritation. Possibly a single purpose for this can be that equally the intestines and the thyroid have the very same embryonic origin, the endoderm.

GROWING AUTOMOTIVE AFTERMARKET ATTRACTS ATTENTION ...

60% OF TRUCKS & BUSES IN UAE ARE 3 YEARS OR OLDER, REQUIRING ONGOING MAINTENANCE

March 29, 2012 PALFX: With about 60% of trucks and buses in the UAE 3 years or older, including pickups, light trucks, SUVs, vans, medium and heavy trucks as well as medium and heavy buses, it is not surprising that the region is a key focus market for spare parts manufacturers and suppliers within this sector.

These figures released by Auto Strategies International in their Motor Vehicle Census Analysis are indicative of a growing demand for fleet management services and maintenance. Service contracts for trucks are valid on average for three years and once these expire it is essential for business owners to continue to service their fleets in to ensure they continue to run at their most economical.

?Adhering to a regular and structured preventive maintenance program would have positive influence on the finances of the businesses as well as on environment and on traffic safety.? said Mr. Sumod Balakrishnan, the Senior Manager ? Marketing (Service) ofDynatrade.

?

?After the initial 3 year period, businesses look for cost effective service and maintenance solutions.Dynatradewhich also operates the largest network of multi-brand Auto Service Centres provides such solutions through tailor-made service contracts / packages which while being cost effective is at the same time of high quality and done as per manufacturer recommendations. Moreover the effectiveness of the service program depends a lot on the ability to carry out correct diagnosis, whichDynatradewith its access to state-of?the-art diagnostics and equipment, technical know-how and trained manpower, is able to provide?.

Manufacturers and suppliers of essential bus and truck spare parts and equipment are eyeing this lucrative market with increasing attention, as can be seen by their presence at the upcoming Automechanika Middle East 2012, the foremost dedicated business networking and trade exhibition for the automotive aftermarket industry.

?We have been seeing a considerable increase in interest among our existing as well as prospective exhibitors in the upcoming exhibition,? said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt. ?Being the only trade show with region-wide reach in the automotive aftermarket industry, Automechanika Middle East is the logical launching pad for those looking to establish their presence or widen their footprint in the region,? he said.

Spare parts manufacturers and suppliers are drawn to these expanding markets as demand grows through requirements for replacements, repairs and servicing these fleets that are already in operation across the region.

Among the major players, and participating for three consecutive years now, is Schaeffler Middle East FZE situated in the Jebel Ali Free Zone and headquartered in Langen, Germany. Schaeffler Middle East supplies LuK, INA, FAG, Continental Contitech, KBC, ATE & VDO brands to the automotive replacement parts market in line with spare parts for drive train, engine and suspension ? for all vehicle classes and in genuine OE quality.

Schaeffler Middle East?s Director of Sales & Marketing ? Mr. Jamil Antary, says: ?We look at our participation in Automechanika Middle East as a key part of our marketing strategy in the region, where we are looking to further strengthen our market penetration within the whole MENA region.?

?The Middle East forms an important growth market for our range of truck, trailer and bus parts,? said Mr. Hans van der Spek, Business Manager of Intertruck. ?Commercial vehicles are increasingly forming the backbone of inter-regional transport of people and goods around this rapidly developing region.? he added.

Mr. Samy Mahta, Senior Sales and Marketing Director for Emerging Markets, Aftermarket Europe ? Tenneco said:

?Automechanika Middle East provides an excellent platform for Tenneco to showcase its latest ride control technologies, as well as its commitment and continued investment in the Middle East region. Tenneco is one of the world?s largest designers, manufacturers and marketers of ride control products and systems for the automotive and commercial vehicle original equipment markets and the aftermarket. Tenneco markets its products principally under the Monroe?, brand names. ?

The tenth edition of Automechanika Middle East, which runs from May 22 to 24 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre looks to be even more representative than in previous years. Last year; Automechanika Middle East presented record breaking results of 1,102 exhibitors (which of 213 exhibitors carried truck and bus parts & equipments) from 52 countries to 17,310 trade visitors from 130 countries. This year the trade exhibition is expected to attract a wide selection of world leading suppliers, manufacturers and service providers looking for further interaction and engagement with one of the world?s most promising markets for the automotive aftermarket and associated industries.

Featuring automotive parts, components, accessories, diagnostics and garage equipment as well as tyres, batteries, refuelling and car washing equipment and machinery, the show is divided into 5 product sections for the benefit of exhibitors and trade visitors, namely: Parts & Systems, Repair & Maintenance, Tyres & Batteries, Service Station & Car Wash and Accessories & Tuning. This adds to the ease of access for trade visitors as the show spans over 9 halls.

Role of Insurance Companies in Injury Lawsuits | Legal Advice Online

Insurance companies play an active role in personal injury lawsuits, mainly because most people carry insurance to cover damages in the event of an accident or other incident resulting in injury. Insurance companies promise to defend policyholders when someone brings a claim against them.

When injury attorneys pursue lawsuits

When unable to obtain adequate compensation in a claim, an injury lawyer can file a lawsuit against the at-fault party on your behalf to seek damages through litigation.

Take an auto accident, for example. The West Virginia Compulsory Insurance Law requires all West Virginia drivers to meet mandatory insurance requirements. In West Virginia, injured parties in a car accident may sue other drivers to recover the full extent of damages for their injuries. In a trial, your attorney would be up against the insurance company?s counsel and each side would present its evidence to win over the jury for a favorable verdict. Settlement negotiations are still possible at any time during the trial, and in fact most cases settle before going to verdict.

Dealing with insurance companies

When filing a claim for damages, your first contact is usually the insurance adjuster working for the insurance company. In most claims, the insurance adjuster asks about the accident or incident, arranges for a damage estimate, and at some point provides a settlement offer on behalf of the insurance company.

If your claim involves serious injury or damages, it is wise to use personal injury lawyers in West Virginia for representation. The reason is that while insurance adjusters and other company representatives may be friendly and helpful, the insurance company?s interests are their priority. Insurance companies guard their bottom lines and set goals for paying the least amount of money possible when settling claims. However, an experienced personal injury lawyer has your best interests in mind, and that usually means obtaining the largest settlement possible on your behalf. Being left with unpaid medical bills or hardship due to lost wages when the other party was responsible for your injury is simply not fair.

To get answers to questions about West Virginia personal injury law or for representation in an injury case, contact an experienced personal injury law firm.

A pizzeria where all the pies are fried

By msnbc.com staff

This is a story about fried pizza. And no, it?s not from the Texas State Fair. It?s from the heart of pizza snobbery: Manhattan.

Today (assuming everything goes well for a restaurant opening -- always a dicey bet), Guilio Adriani opens on the Lower East Side what he says is the world?s first pizzeria where all the pies are fried.

La Montanara by Forcella will be open evenings and late night at 168 Ludlow Street. And it sounds like Adriani knows his prospective customers well.

?Lots of clubs, lots of drunk people on the Lower East Side. We should do good. I hope so,? Adriani, who is from Naples, Italy, said.

The dough is fried, then toppings are added, then the pizza is baked. The resulting crust ?is very light.?

Adriani owns two other pizza restaurants. He added a few of the fried pies to the menu of one last July.

?It was the best seller, so we decided to go with only fried pies? at La Montanara by Forcella he said.

The idea isn?t completely new. It?s done in some restaurants in Naples he said. But Adriani says his execution is different ? specifically because he uses sunflower oil which he says makes for the lightest possible crust.

?Sometimes when you are a chef you try something and it turns out good,? he said of the experiment.

Reached by phone the day before opening, Adriani seemed calm. Perhaps because it?s his third place.

?When you have one (restaurant) you cook mostly. When you have three you control mostly. Depends on what you like,? he said. ?Right now I like control since if you do something and it works you are a success.?

Eater New York has a copy of the menu, which also features a couple of dessert pies with Nutella and some sandwiches ? fried, naturally.

What do you think? Will you give it a try? Share your thougths on Facebook.

Can you learn how to write novels, or does it require a special gift? The nub of this question is about skill versus ability - skills can be learned, abilities are innate. Arguably, writing is a skill. However, the quality of your work will depend on ability.
Here are my personal guidelines to help you make a start writing books. Many writers will tell you that going on creative writing courses will help. Maybe. I learned most of them the hard way.
Know The Competition
Read widely in your genre - you need to know the competition, particularly the best writers. This is a good place to begin learning how to write novels, because you see what sells (but remember that good marketing can sell poor quality work).
Plan The Story In Advance (Or Not)
Many successful writers start out with a plan for a book: start, middle and end, with the plan pinned up on a wall. Then they add character profiles and flesh them out. It is much easier to do this if you have a plot in mind. I just can't write books this way even if I have a good plot to start with. I like writing a book to be a journey of discovery for me as well as the reader. Find which method works for you.
How To Write Novels - Sit Down And Write
It will force you to think about 'point of view' ('POV'). Who is speaking in the story you are writing - that is, whose point of view is it? There are many technical perspectives here, but the rule is - decide your POV and stick to it.
A Plot Will Emerge
Don't worry if you don't have a plot. Imagine your main character (MC), and start describing him. Then, describe a typical day. Where is the MC - maybe at a beach you know well? Many authors set their stories in their home town.
The act of writing should engage your brain and your creative side.
The school of life is a wonderful teacher, so draw on your experiences whenever you can. People write best about what they know. Research thoroughly those areas you don't know well, making notes as you go along.
If you are still struggling to develop a plot, then go back to your main character, and spoil his day. Maybe an accident happens to him, or his home gets burgled. Write about that, about what led up to those events, who the players were. Was it a conspiracy? Did he have a secret life?
Show And Tell
Many writers tell the bulk of the story using dialogue between characters ('showing') in preference to a plain narrative, which can become tedious unless the author is adroit. A good story will have both, though there are authors who can break the 'rules' completely, and get away with it. If you are just starting out, though, and hope to get published, it's best to adhere to the rules.
Grammar And Punctuation
If you are weak in these areas, don't worry, an editor can correct them. Writing books is about much more than grammar if you have a good story to tell. If you really are below par in this respect then it would be best to engage a professional proof editor before sending your manuscript to a prospective publisher or agent.
Finally
The main 'rule' is - just do it. Write the first word, then the sentence and so on. Don't be too ambitious with your early goals. Write your next hundred words. As you write, ideas should spark - note them on a pad, for inclusion later. Join some author forums, and meet other authors - there are thousands of aspiring novelists learning how to write novels, and swapping ideas. It is a great way of learning the craft.
