LONDON (AP) ? The Olympics brought less tourist money to recession-hit Britain than businesses had hoped for, a trade group said Monday, with a majority of tourist companies reporting losses from last year.

A survey of more than 250 tour operators, hoteliers and visitor attractions found that tourist traffic fell all over Britain, not just London, said UKinbound, a leading trade association representing British tour operators and other businesses dependent on tourists.

"A lot of people thought London would be very busy and very expensive at this time," said Mary Rance, the group's chief executive. "We weren't completely surprised but we were a bit disappointed that (the Olympics) seem to have had an impact around the U.K., not just London."

The group's survey said that of its members, 88 percent reported some losses during the games compared to the same period last year. The businesses reported that visitor numbers were down by 10 to 30 percent compared to last year, Rance said.

Officials are still tallying up the total number of tourists who came to ? or avoided ? London this summer. The capital normally sees about 1.5 million tourists on average in August, and it's not yet clear if that is up or down this year.

The official visitor figures won't be available until September.

Tourism officials say that international Olympics visitors to London, including athletes, officials and tourists, totaled about 300,000. Domestic spectators from Britain made up the majority of people visiting games venues.

Restaurants and shops have complained that these games visitors did not spend as much money on food and shopping as typical summer tourists.

"The people who came to the games really didn't do very much sightseeing, didn't do very much shopping, didn't do very much eating out," said Miles Quest, a spokesman for the British Hospitality Association.

London's hotels have hit about 80 percent occupancy, which is not higher than typical August rates, Quest added.

Rita Beckwith, chief executive of City Cruises, an operator of sightseeing tours on the Thames, said the Olympics period had been "deeply disappointing."

There were some positive signs. Visa, the only credit card accepted at the Olympics venues, reported that international visitors to Britain spent more than 450 million pounds ($705 million) on their cards during the first week of the games, up by 8 percent on the same time last year.

Around 12.7 million pounds were spent on Visa cards in London restaurants last week, an increase of almost 20 percent on a year ago.

London and Partners, the company that oversees the tourism industry in the capital, said it had expected the lower visitor numbers this summer. But it stressed that it was more important to focus on the long-term effect the Olympics can have in bringing in potential tourists.

"We are now working with (tour operators) to promote the legacy of the games and to turn the millions of viewers into visitors, who can come to the capital and experience the new attractions and exciting places they have seen on their screens," it said in a statement.

In these days, it would appear that everyone is increasingly concerned with protecting their belongings. In light of the downturn in the economy and late industry, no-one can afford to lose hardly any money or items. best home security systems has become a top priority for home owners, as they wish to accomplish every thing in their power to make sure they#&39;re property is safe and secure. But how about small businesses? Local businesses are often targets of crack ins that will ruin their supply and over all profits. Many of the guidelines for protecting a home also apply to protecting businesses, and it?s important to take the measures essential to know that your business is as secure as possible. While large companies can commit a substantial amount of money in security, small businesses do not have this type of budget. That?s why it?s around the company owner to all protective measures and implement a thorough security plan. There are other security measures that can be taken that?ll bring about improved security, while it is needless to say very important to invest in small company insurance to protect against major deficits. Here are some important methods for protecting a tiny business:-Install an alarm system much like a home security system. This really is one of many most effective ways to defending your enterprise, and will act as a deterrent against possible thieves. Every year, way too many smaller businesses are the objectives of crack inches because they don?t have security systems defending them. There are several different systems on the market, so take stock of your business#&39; needs and choose which company is best for you. Some security companies provide 24-hour monitoring, which is a great option when you sell especially beneficial product or are found in a higher crime area.-Aside from just installing a service similar to a alarm system, you should also ensure that all personnel know how to properly utilize the system. Anybody who is responsible for ending up during the night must make sure to stimulate the system before leaving, normally your investment will undoubtedly be practically unnecessary. Education your personnel in proper security procedures, such as for instance remembering setting the alarm and often locking the doors before leaving is an crucial part of keeping your organization secure. All those working for you must make security a priority as well, usually it will keep chips in your system that eventually make it prone to a break in.-In the exact same light, you must have the ability to trust the folks working for you, so it?s not a bad idea to run a back ground check up on all new employees. Probably the most high tech alarm system or extensive security procedures will not drive back a dishonest employee, so be sure all potential applicants are properly vetted by you before choosing. A worker has nearly complete access to your business and resources, so you got to know that they are a honest and reliable person in your group. Failing continually to just take this step might have devastating results for your company, so don?t overlook this.

Luxury Car Blog Car Repair For Newbies

The more research you do on your vehicle, the more prepared you will be for a good repair process. Even if you are mechanically challenged, you will be able to handle car dealings. By using your eyes and your nose, you can identify issues with a troublesome vehicle.

What You See is What You Get

Does your car leave spots behind on the ground when you park it? It could be relatively harmless. Just to make sure, you will want to do some diagnostic work immediately. Ask yourself what color is the stain on the ground? If your color is a glowing green or garish orange color, this indicates a radiator leak. This is not good. Many people have had this problem, only to have their car overheat. Overheating could eventually crack the car's head or blow a head gasket, both of which are highly undesirable.

A burned looking fluid or black ooze could indicate an oil leak. This also needs fixed soon. A leaky seal could be the ultimate culprit. Many cars have been trashed due to this passing unnoticed. A red, glutinous stain indicates an issue with the car's power steering or transmission. Both of these are not good. It is hard to steer without power steering fluid and a leaky transmission has many repercussions. Filmy water spots aren't to be worried about. These could be just be standard air condition condensation pools.

Do You Smell What's Cooking?

Taking a whiff of your car could help your diagnose its problem. Does it smell like something has been burned? This aroma indicates that an electrical aspect has shorted out. This needs to be looked at by a professional. Avoid driving it until you have had it looked at.

Does your car smell of rotten eggs? This sulfuric scent means something is amiss with the catalytic converter. You need to get to a repair shop. A heavy burning aroma means that oil is being burned. Look on the ground for a spot. If transportation is vital to your life, you need to have this addressed immediately. If you notice a blue-hued smoke emitting from your car, this is also a bad sign.

A strong smell of gas is also cause for concern. You may have a gas leak, which is going to need to fixed to avoid excessive gas costs. You could have a leak in the tank or in the lines. A burned rubber smell could mean a break issue. Let the brakes cool after a period of constant braking. You also need to check the parking brake.

Do you pick up a slightly sweet smell? This could be a coolant leak. Until you get to the mechanic, you should watch your heat gauge. If steam is issuing from the car, you need to pop the hood and let the car cool. If you push a car that is overheating, you will ruin your engine. The rule is that if something doesn't smell right, get it to the mechanics immediately.

Grow Your List Faster with Monthly Teleseminars - GINA BELL Inc xo

One of my clients reached out to me with a?problem she was facing??

Question: ?About five months ago I started hosting a monthly teleseminar in order to grow my list. Today is my 5th one. When I started there were 47 people on my list. Now there are 138. Not what I was hoping for.

I am committed to these calls through the end of the year. I enjoy speaking which keeps me doing it. The people I am interviewing also have small lists, and they aren?t really doing much promotion either. How do I do a better job in building my list for the teleseminars??

Answer: Ouch. Turtle-paced list growth is FRUSTRATING.?

A monthly teleseminar, podcast or radio show is a great visibility strategy and can boost online credibility too.

Here are some simple things you can do to grow your list faster with monthly teleseminars:

#1. Invite guests who are established experts with vibrant networks (sometimes this is a stretch outside of our comfort zone but well worth the reach.)

#2. Make it a requirement that your guests announce their class or interview to their networks (you can use a speaker agreement and provide them with a short invitation script that they can copy/paste/send to their list).

#3. Use teaser bullets when you announce the topic for your upcoming call to create curiosity.

Teaser bullets are a like mini headlines and we all know how important compelling headlines are ? right!? After you done reading this post, hop on over to CopyBlogger.com and enter ?teaser bullets? into their search box. Just this one change alone can dramatically increase interest in your teleseminar topics!

NOTE: Copy Blogger is my #1 resource for boosting my motivational copy skills! I recommend that ALL of my clients spend some time on their blog. Why? Because writing effective copy is an essential skill set for women in business online.

#4. Use cliff hanger statements/bullets in your communications to build excitement about what?s coming up next month. If you?ve ever watched a daytime or evening drama and experienced? ?Here?s what?s coming up next on Days of Our Lives? for example and they play a series of clips that move you to the edge of your seat and leave you saying ?Oh I can?t wait to see THAT episode! I?ve got to know what happens!? ? that?s what you can create in your copy. Here?s a great article on ? you guessed it ? CopyBlogger.com that talks about this (see #5) and gives a great example too.

#5. List your tele-classes with free teleseminar listing services such as

a. See You On the Call at seeyouonthecall.com

b. Conference Call University at cculearning.com

#6. Use a ?tell a friend? page/script as a thank you page once people opt-in. Here?s one you can try.

#7. Invite more than one expert to each call and conduct a PANEL discussion? instead of one guest inviting their list, now you have three each month (and triple the traffic filtering through your Tell A Friend page too!).

As you can see there are many ways to ?take it up a notch or ten!? as I like to say ;)

LAW this to this

Are there strategies that YOU have leveraged (or observed) that we could add to this list? If so, be sure to share in the comments okay ;)

Obama Ad Alleges Romney Role in 'Notorious' Tax Scandal

COLORADO SPRINGS - As he decries the negativity of campaign ads while on the stump in battleground states, President Obama should take a close look in the mirror. His campaign Thursday continued its vigorous pace of attacks on rival Mitt Romney, with a new TV ad alleging the presumptive GOP presidential nominee once participated in "one of the largest tax avoidance schemes in history."

"We do know that Romney personally approved over $70 million in fictional losses to the IRS as part of the notorious 'Son of Boss' tax scandal," the narrator says, "One of the largest tax avoidance schemes in history. Isn't it time for Romney to come clean?"

The ad refers to Romney's role as chairman of the audit committee for hotel giant Marriott International for six years in the 1990s. During that time, the company took advantage of complicated tax avoidance measures, including the so-called "Son of Boss" tax shelter which was later challenged successfully by the Justice Department and IRS. Romney, as an auditor, presumably knew about the practice.

The Obama campaign says the ad, which will air in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio, fairly illustrates a pattern of behavior by Romney to minimize tax liabilities in his personal life and in business dealings.

"These questions are especially relevant given voters' heightened attention in this election to the fate of their own tax rates, and the central role tax reform will play in the next administration," said Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt in a memo to reporters.

The Romney campaign says the charge that the candidate "personally" oversaw Marriott's tax avoidance practices and had a key role in "scandal" is overblown - both "dishonorable and dishonest," said spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg.

Republicans also point out that the Obama ad's primary sourcing for its central allegation is a CNN.com op-ed published Wednesday by two major Democratic donors, "tax experts" Peter Canellos and Edward Kleinbard.

Canellos and Kleinbard have participated in press conference calls hosted by the Democratic National Committee to attack Romney, and each has donated significant sums to Democrats in election campaigns, Federal Election Commission records show.

"In 2008, candidate Obama said 'you make a big election about small things' when you don't have a record to run on. Since President Obama can't run on record unemployment, falling incomes, and massive debt, he has decided to run a dirty campaign that is an affront to everything he claims to stand for," Henneberg said.

Jay-Z and Beyonce became parents to a baby girl on Saturday night.

By Anderson Antunes, Forbes contributor

It?s been a tough year for celebrity couples. From?Katy Perry?and Russell Brand to?Heidi Klum?and Seal to Demi Moore and?Ashton Kutcher?and, ultimately,?Tom Cruise?and Katie Holmes, the love affairs of the rich and famous seem to be falling apart everywhere these days. Still, there are some couples out there in Tinseltown and beyond who have not only managed to stay strong but are also laughing all the way to the bank together.

Take?Beyonce Knowles?and?Jay-Z, for example. Last year?s runners-up on the list of?The World?s Highest-Paid Celebrity Couples, the duo has now climbed one spot to top this year?s ranking. Knowles, who took a break from her hectic touring schedule in 2011 to give birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter, still collects big paychecks from old hits. Besides, the singer?s new album went platinum in the U.S., not to mention her non-musical ventures and endorsement deals, which all helped to bring her total earnings between May 1, 2011 and May 1, 2012 to $40 million, according to data from the latest?Celebrity 100?list.

More from Forbes.com: Heidi Klum and Seal divorce: How much is at stake?

And as the male half of music?s first couple, Jay-Z isn?t far behind his wife. The hip-hop mogul made millions from "Watch the Throne," his musical collaboration with pal?Kanye West, and even more from the tour that followed. Add to that a bevy of non-musical enterprises such as ad firm Translation and cosmetics company Carol?s Daughter and the result is a staggering $38 million that he has brought home in twelve months, putting the couple?s annual income at?$78 million.

Coming second on the list are last year?s winners?Gisele Bundchen?and?Tom Brady. The 32-year-old supermodel remains an?unparalleled force?within the fashion industry, racking up modeling gigs, endorsement deals and independent licensing ventures that bank her some $45 million a year. Brady, on the other side, this year became just the second quarterback after John Elway to lead his team to five Super Bowls, only to be defeated at the hands of the New York Giants and failing to win a fourth ring.

Don?t feel sorry for him, though. Apart from his four-year, $72 million contract extension with the New England Patriots that runs through 2014, Brady is also following on his wife?s footsteps and signing modeling gigs with the likes of Under Armour and UGG Boots. On the field and off it, he made $27 million, hauling a total of?$72 million?along with Bundchen between May 2011 and May 2012.

More from Forbes.com: Jay-Z and Beyonce preparing for the Blue Ivy empire

The other royal couple from England,?David Beckham?and Victoria Beckham grabbed the third place on the list. Still strong on his hard quest to popularize soccer in America, Beckham re-signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS in January for another two years. But the player?s pot of gold is his endorsement portfolio, which includes Burger King, Sainsbury?s and Samsung. As?the world?s highest-paid soccer player, he makes about $46 million a year.

And it seems like Mrs. Beckham,?who?s preparing for a Spice Girls reunion performance at the London Olympics, is on her way to catching up with her husband when it comes to earnings, thanks to her passion for fashion. Victoria?s?eponymous clothing range is a success, generating over $40 million annually in sales, with growth at double-digit rate. Victoria?s kickback on her fashion line of wool dresses and $3,000 purses, plus other sources of income such as royalties from Spice Girls? hits, puts her annual earnings at $8 million -- a total of?$54 million?for the Beckhams.

Hollywood?s most famous couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, came in fourth on the list, with a combined?$45 million?annual income. Pitt earned his third Oscar nomination this year for "Moneyball," but yet the bigger news was his proposal to long-time partner Jolie. Balancing arty pictures like "Tree of Life"?with his life as a tabloid target, he folded about $25 million. Also a tabloid-friendly celebrity, Jolie earns millions from big studio flicks, residuals and endorsement deals for companies like Louis Vuitton. Only between May 2011 and May 2012, the actress cashed in some $20 million.

Photos from Forbes.com: Highest paid models

Last but certainly not least are superstar? Will Smith?and his wife, the also actress Jada Pinkett Smith. After taking a short break from the big screen, Smith came back in a big way. The star of "Men in Black 3"?(box office: $619 million worldwide and counting) and?"After Earth," an upcoming science-fiction thriller film directed by M. Nigh Shyamalan which co-stars his son Jaden, Smith is one of Hollywood?s most bankable actors, earning $30 million between May 2011 and May 2012.

Jada also had a good year, thanks mostly to her part on the movie "Madagascar 3: Europe?s Most Wanted," which grossed over $500 million worldwide.?One of many celebrities to invest?a combined total of $10 million in Carol?s Daughter, a line of beauty products created by Lisa Price, she has also acted as a spokesperson for the brand. Her earnings have totaled $10 million this year, making hers and Smith?s combined annual salary?$40 million.

Sink or Swim: 6 Ways to Adapt to Climate Change

Wild geoengineering schemes may aim to reverse global warming by reflecting sunlight into space or storing excess carbon dioxide, but they won't spare humanity from living through climate change in the next several decades. That means humans must adapt to life in a world where droughts hit harder, floodwaters rise higher and entire island nations may sink beneath the waves.

'Some adaptation ideas resemble science fiction made real ? growing crops inside city buildings, floating villages and genetically engineered crops. Other solutions, such as floating agriculture and traditional species cross-breeding, draw upon the long history of human adaptation rather than futuristic technologies.

Waterworld homes: When the waters rise, tomorrow's buildings may rise with them as floating structures. Koen Olthuis, head of Waterstudio.NL, has begun working on projects ranging from floating apartments in the Netherlands to a floating mosque in the United Arab Emirates. The Netherlands firm has also designed a series of floating hotels, conference centers and other buildings for the Maldives, an island country in the Indian Ocean that faces complete submersion by 2080.

Another pioneering Dutch firm, Dura Vermeer, has already made floating buildings such as a greenhouse and an entire amphibious village in the Netherlands ? all using many layers of plastic foam arranged into floating grids that are able to support concrete structures. Such technologies provide a new twist to the ancient human practice of building homes on stilts in perennially flooded countries such as Bangladesh.

Underground cities: Mucking about like imaginary mole people may sound unappealing, but moving more cities underground could offer added protection from the harsher extremes of climate change. Putting power lines underground has already made the difference for many cities between having electricity and seeing the lights go out in the aftermath of severe storms ? and megacities such as Hong Kong also see the added bonus of saving on space by moving power stations and water reservoirs below the surface.

Life underground could even resemble more of a pastoral paradise rather than a grim dystopian film. One group of U.S. entrepreneurs has proposed building a "LowLine" park in an abandoned trolley station in New York City. A fiber optic cable could not only direct sunlight into the underground area to help trees and plants grow, but also screen out harmful ultraviolet rays ? and electric lighting could help out during cloudy days or at night. [5 Skyscrapers for a Greener Future]

Floating farms: Bangladesh's 140 million people have already learned to live with climate change the hard way in a country where much of the land is less than 16 feet above sea level. Floods cover one- fourth of the country in an average year, and as much as 60 percent every four or five years. That has forced Bangladesh's farmers to create a homegrown adaptation to live in a world of rising seas and worse flooding ? floating agriculture.

Farmers build floating rafts out of straw, rice stubble and a weed called water hyacinth, before adding upper layers of decaying waterworts to act as manure. The rafts become moveable floating surfaces that replace flooded agricultural land and can actually produce much more crops than traditional fields ? an idea other countries might adapt with their own local twists.

Smart energy: A warming planet means many homes and businesses will use more energy and spend more on electricity bills to keep cool. Tomorrow's power grids must not only connect to new sources of clean energy ? such as renewable solar, wind, tidal or geothermal power ? but also become smarter to juggle the mix of old and new energy sources and respond quickly to changing energy demands at different times of day.

Some smart grids may represent more intelligent versions of the huge, central power grids that dominate industrialized countries. Others may pop up as smaller microgrids based on local energy sources such as solar or wind power, but are still capable of networking together to send energy to where it's needed.

Vertical farms: Many farmers can expect more severe droughts and a growing swarm of crop-damaging pests in a warmer climate. One possible solution comes from a formerly fringe idea that has begun to catch on across the world ? vertical farms that consist of many levels reaching skyward (or even underground).

The vertical farms provide an indoor, controlled climate to grow crops in a space-saving setup that can prove more efficient than growing crops in open fields, said Dickson Despommier, a microbiologist and ecologist at Columbia University who helped pioneer the vertical farm movement. Countries such as the U.S., Sweden, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea and Singapore have all begun experimenting with their own vertical farms.

Climate-adapted crops: Crops don't have to move indoors to survive if they can adapt to the droughts and temperature shifts of climate change. Drought-resistant corn that is able to grow with less water has already debuted in different versions from companies such as Monsanto, DuPont and Sygenta. The agribusiness giants have begun investing billions of dollars in genetically engineering "climate-ready" crops to resist drought, flooding, heat, cold and salt ? an effort spanning 1,633 patents as of 2010, according to a report by the ETC Group.

Climate-adaptation can also come from identifying ideal traits in existing crops without genetic engineering, changing breeding tactics for crops, and planting a more diverse range of resilient crops. The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the University of California-Davis used marker-assisted selection to identify a flood-tolerant gene in an Indian rice variety and move it to other rice crops. In another case, the African Rice Center has cross-bred Asian and African rice species to create more heat- and drought-tolerant crops.

Motorola teases mystery LTE phone, announces Friday reveal

Taking to its Facebook page, Motorola has rewarded its loyal Likers with a tease: an LTE phone will be revealed on Friday, and the company will offer up a new clue about it every day leading up to the announcement. Our guess? We'd say we're ripe for a Droid RAZR HD debut on Verizon right about now. Regardless, it seems that Moto's pretty eager for this mysterious device -- we just hope it's worth the anticipation.

Update: It turns out that Motorola is not actually revealing a new device on Friday. Rather, it appears the company's simply playing a game of "guess the smartphone" (the phone is already available in the US, apparently) and the answer will be unveiled on Friday.

Advantages of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) | Accounting ...

Small businesses have a lot of tax filing requirements that have to be met, from filling out specific forms to keeping thorough records on everything. At times, the whole process can be very frustrating. Therefore, small business financial consulting with a CPA is a great way to relieve the stress and make sure everything is filed correctly.

One of the most important advantages of having a certified public accountant for financial consulting is that they take over the tedious, frustrating work of crunching the numbers and keeping expenses and profits organized. This allows small business owners to focus on more important things, like running their businesses. Whereas keeping up with things like this can be very frustrating for some individuals, CPAs are trained to do it, so it?s second nature to them. As long as they?re provided with the data, they can keep track of it in order to show the important information a business needs for tax preparation and for the day to day practices of running a business.

Another important service a certified public accountant provides is avoiding audits. While a CPA can?t guarantee you won?t be audited, they can make sure your tax papers are all correct and error-free. This is one aspect of ensuring that you?re not targeted for an audit by the IRS. They also have the unique ability of looking at the entire financial picture rather than simply focusing on just one aspect. This is priceless, because they can use the information they receive to give you advice about the way your business is performing and different moves you can take to improve profits or reduce expenses.

Finally, with small business financial accounting, a certified public accountant can help you fully understand the numbers and what they mean. This gives you a unique advantage in business, and it can actually help improve your business. When you communicate with your CPA, you can learn a lot, without having to do the tedious job that your CPA is handling for you.

When it comes to small business finances, it?s more than just saving receipts and adding up profits. Having a CPA can help ensure that your numbers are thoroughly organized and that your business is on the up and up with the IRS.

Chemotherapy For Cancer: More Harm Than Good?

chemotherapy being adminstered

A new study about cancer treatments suggests that chemotherapy drugs can backfire and prompt the spread of tumors.

In examining tissue from men with prostate cancer, and subsequently with breast and ovarian cancer tumors, researchers found evidence of DNA damage in healthy cells. Moreover, according to the Agence France Presse news agency, ?The scientists found that healthy cells damaged by chemotherapy secreted more of a protein called WNT16B which boosts cancer cell survival.?

Cancer study co-author Dr. Peter Nelson added that ?WNT16B, when secreted, would interact with nearby tumor cells and cause them to grow, invade, and importantly, resist subsequent therapy.?

AFP notes that ?In cancer treatment, tumors often respond well initially, followed by rapid regrowth and then resistance to further chemotherapy.?

The study, just published in the Nature Medicine journal concludes that ?Acquired resistance to anticancer treatments is a substantial barrier to reducing the morbidity and mortality that is attributable to malignant tumors. ?

Chemotherapy drugs generally have massive side affects that undermine the body?s immune system and result in a decrease in white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets.

In a separate survey, the Natural News website (which is run by self-designated ?health ranger? Mike Adams) claims that many doctors themselves are less than enthusiastic about conventional chemotherapy treatment:

Research using polls and questionnaires continue to show that 3 of every 4 doctors and scientists would refuse chemotherapy for themselves due to its devastating effects on the entire body and the immune system, and because of its extremely low success rate. On top of that, only 2 to 4% of all cancers even respond to chemotherapy or prove to be ?life extending,? yet it is prescribed across the board for just about every kind of cancer.

Dr. Nelson indicated that the new study data as published in Nature Medicine could lead to newer or improved treatment protocols or? ?smaller, less toxic does of therapy.?

Romney says Obama favors 'culture of dependency'

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (AP) ? Republican Mitt Romney accused President Barack Obama on Tuesday of ditching a long-standing work requirement for welfare recipients, accusing him of fostering a "culture of dependency" and backing up the charge with a new television commercial.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said the allegations were "blatantly dishonest ... hypocrisy knows no bounds." He added that Romney, while serving as Massachusetts governor, had once petitioned the White House to loosen employment rules for those on welfare.

Romney made his accusation in a relatively rare occurrence in the race for the White House ? an appearance before voters outside the small group of battleground states likely to settle the Nov. 6 election.

Illinois and its 20 electoral votes are politically safe territory for Obama in the fall. Romney was there for a fundraiser as well as a stop at a manufacturing company, part of the intense competition between the two candidates to stockpile cash for the stretch run to Election Day.

The president had a pair of fundraisers on his campaign schedule for the day, both within a few blocks of the White House.

In a race as close as this one, the taunts were getting personal.

Romney, interviewed on Fox News, said Obama was "saying things that are not accurate" when it comes to taxes. He referred to a crack the president made on Monday night as "Obama-loney," rhyming it with baloney.

At a fundraiser, Obama called Romney's tax plan Robin Hood in reverse ? "Romney Hood" ? and repeated his accusation that it would mean tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans while forcing the middle class to pay the IRS as much as $2,000 more a year.

The president wants to extend tax breaks due to expire at all income levels, except above $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for a couple. He has made his proposal central to a pitch to middle- and working-class voters as he seeks a second term with unemployment at 8.3 percent.

Romney wants to keep the tax cuts in place at all income levels, and has proposed an additional 20 percent reduction in rates.

Romney's decision to introduce the welfare issue into the campaign seemed aimed at blue-collar, white working-class voters in a weak economy, and suggested that Obama might be gaining ground politically with his position on taxes.

It also marked an attempt to take the gloss off the recent announcement that former President Bill Clinton will have a prime-time speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. early next month.

Appearing before hundreds of supporters at a manufacturing plant near Chicago, Obama's hometown, the Republican challenger said bipartisan legislation signed into law by Clinton in 1996 "reformed welfare to encourage people to work. They did not want a culture of dependency to continue to grow in our country," he said of the then-president and Congress, which was under Republican control at the time.

He said that, just recently, Obama "has tried to reverse that accomplishment by taking the work requirement out of welfare. That is wrong, and If I'm president, I'll put work back in welfare. ...We will end a culture of dependency and restore a culture of good, hard work," he said.

Romney's new ad buttressed the point.

"Under Obama's plan you wouldn't have to work and wouldn't have to train for a job. They just send you a welfare check, and welfare to work goes back to being plan old welfare," the announcer says in the commercial.

"Mitt Romney will restore the work requirement."

Under the law signed by Clinton and amended a decade later, the federal government does not provide a guaranteed benefit to welfare recipients. Instead, the states receive federal funds and are permitted to establish a variety of programs to benefit the poor. The government imposes a limit on the length of time families can receive aid and requires recipients eventually to go to work.

The Romney campaign circulated material during the day that quoted Obama, then a state senator in Illinois, as saying he "probably would have voted against it" if he had been in Congress.

The Obama administration recently announced plans to issue waivers to states that wanted "to test alternative and innovative strategies, policies and procedures" to improve employment among needy families. It said it was acting after receiving requests from some of the nation's governors, including Republicans in Utah and Nevada. But senior GOP lawmakers attacked the move as an attempt to undermine the welfare-to-work requirements in effect for more than a decade.

Officials with access to detailed advertising information said it appeared the commercial was airing at heavy levels in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia ? states where the race is closest.

Romney was himself targeted with a new ad during the day, this one launched by Priorities USA Action, a super PAC that supports Obama.

It features a former Kansas City steelworker who says his company was taken over in 1993 by a group that included Bain Capital, the private equity firm co-founded by Romney.

"When Mitt Romney and Bain closed the plant, I lost my health care, and my family lost their health care," he said. His wife became ill, but "I think maybe she didn't say anything because she knew we couldn't afford the insurance," he says. By the time she went to the hospital, she was diagnosed with cancer and died quickly, he said.

"I do not think Mitt Romney realizes what he's done to anyone, and furthermore I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned."

In response, Ryan Williams, a spokesman for Romney, said Obama's allies "continue to use discredited and dishonest attacks in a contemptible effort to conceal the administration's deplorable economic record."

Both parties were fleshing out the speaking schedule for their conventions.

Republicans said Romney's most persistent primary rival, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, would have a turn at the speaker's podium. So, too, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a tea party favorite.

Former President Jimmy Carter will tape a video message to be aired in prime time at the Democratic convention.

Government Spending Can Create New Jobs

Three years after our worst recession since the Great Depression officially ended, the U.S. economy is still very weak.

The people most hurt by this weakness are the unemployed and the poor, and of course the two problems are related. We have 23 million people who are unemployed, involuntarily working part-time, or given up looking for work ? nearly 15 percent of the labor force. And poverty has reached 15.1 percent of the population ? amazingly, a level that it was at in the mid-1960s.

NO CHEERING

There are many different ways fans send athletes off on a hunt for Olympic medals.

They call their names, shout out their countries. They clap, they scream, they bang on chairs or stamp their feet.

Not at the start of the men's 20K race walk, though.

There was a marching band, then some rock songs, then elevator music. Then as the walkers got ready at the start, the announcer addressed the crowd at Buckingham Palace.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to ask you for a complete silence," he said.

The crowd went silent, but not completely.

So he added: "Shhhhhhhh."

And off they walked. Without a single cheer.

It's just called Spicy...: Pregnancy Brain is Real

So this is so funny! Pregnancy Brain is real. I shared last Tuesday some details from one of my awesome baby showers, you can check it out here! I was blessed with two sweet baby showers because when we were visiting Noland's family in June, they also had a baby shower for me.?

Well as soon I got home from this past weekend's shower, I started writing my thank you notes because my wedding thank you notes took forever to write and I'm not even sure that I covered everyone due to the plethora of items we received and some un-updated lists/un-labeled packages received.

So I promise this story is going somewhere... I received a gracious amount of gift cards at both showers, which are awesome because you can then purchase the much needed necessities! Let me just say that I am usually a decent writer and try to spend a lot of time putting together a nice thank you note. I am so beyond thankful for the gifts we received and we feel so blessed, so thank you notes are important to me.

Today, I was writing my last "Thank You", I realized that I had misspelled the word "stock"?probably a lot.?In several thank you notes, when someone had given me a gift card, I wrote a sentence similar to:?

Thanks for the gift card we were able to stalk up on some much needed baby necessities.?

stock v. stalk

Yes. I got them confused.

How embarrassing...

By the time I noticed this mistake, I already sent out almost all except five thank you notes... Oops. So if one of you that receive(d) a "Thank you" with "stalk" instead of "stock"... I'm so sorry. Pregnancy brain?

This has just been a common?occurrence?lately. I hope my husband doesn't think I'm losing my mind. Pregnancy brain is REAL. Momnesia... also real. (Story #2) Today, I took a shower and half way through, I couldn't remember if I washed my body, so I washed it again.?

(Story #3) Last week, when we were on our way to visit my family, I started the drive to get my focus off of my back pain. We left our place and headed to the interstate... After about 30 minutes of talking with my husband about our day, he asked, "Where are you going?"

I had accidentally taken a wrong turn thinking I was heading in the right direction and didn't even realize where I was going. It was one of those weird feelings because I was paying attention to the drive but not so much the destination. Hard to explain.

I guess it's just all the exciting preparation for baby is filling up the bookshelves in my brain instead of proper spelling of words. So forgive this post if there are spelling and grammar mistakes! Haha.?

Thanks for listening to my thoughts. Don't forget, pregnancy brain is real.

Thank's for stoppin' by
