How to Know When it's Time to Redesign Your Website : Business ...

All three of my websites (BusinessInfoGuide.com, AuthorityPublishing.com, StephanieChandler.com) underwent major redesigns last year, and it was long overdue. Though it involved a tremendous amount of work to manage those projects, it was well worth the effort. Now I look at my beautiful new sites and wish someone had nudged me to do it sooner.

Here are some indications that it?s time to have your site redesigned.

1. The design is more than five years old. If your site has been around since the advent of the internet, it?s running on old technology. These days sites are most commonly built on WordPress or Joomla. Anything else is probably out-dated.

2. It?s built with a DIY template. A build-your-own-website option is fine when you?re working on a budget or you need a quick starter site, but these often lack the professionalism of custom designed site.

3. There is no blog component. Hands down, one of the easiest and most effective ways to drive more traffic to your site is with a blog. Adding this feature is reason alone to have your site redesigned?immediately!

4. You cringe a little when you look at it. If your site doesn?t dazzle YOU, it certainly isn?t dazzling anyone else.

5. It?s primarily text-based and lacks visual appeal. A little color can go a long way, and so can photos, video clips, custom logos, and other elements that make web pages pop.

6. You know it could be better, but make excuses about why it isn?t. Denial ain?t just a river in Egypt!

7. You find yourself admiring other people?s websites. Site envy is a common indicator that a change is in order.

8. Your main excuses for not updating your site are time or money. Budget doesn?t need to be a major factor in website design with so many low-cost options now available. As for time, yep, it will take some. But not dedicating time to update your site is like not dedicating time to grow your business. Does that make sense?

9. You don?t want to learn how to administer a new site. Excuses, excuses!

10. You?re reading this post. You wouldn?t be interested in this article if you weren?t wondering whether it?s time to upgrade. If you?re questioning whether now is the time, it probably is.
