If you don?t have a particular goal, then you are largely squandering your time. When you have a concrete goal with a burning desire behind it then everything you do towards that target will be much more effective. Simply by setting the goal you?re 10 times as sure to hit it.
Have you heard of SMART goals? This is an acronym that stands for 5 important pieces of goal setting.
Specific
Is you goal specific? The straightforward question to ask yourself if will you know the exact moment you have finished your goal? If your answer?s yes, great. If its no, then your goal is not specific, and you won?t know the correct actions to take to hit it.
Measurable
Is your goal quantifiable? How will you know when you are nearer to your goal then you?re now? If you can measure it you can track your results. And with tracking comes improvement.
Actionable
Is your goal actionable? Is this a goal you can take action on? Is it something that?s in your powers of control? If it is then you can handle it and it makes a good goal. If not, you can?t do much about it so do not waste your time on it.
Realistic
Is your goal realistic? Is it something you can realistically do? If you?re 300 lbs. overweight and need to enter the Olympics next year, I am sorry mate, you do not have an opportunity, unless they make eating an Olympic sport. Whatever it is it?s got to be practical to you in your mind.
Time sensitive
Is you goal time dependent? This implies has it got a deadline. When you set a cut off point you significantly speed up the method of your attainment of that goal. Without a cut-off point your accomplishment can just move much further away.
